The AI opponents no longer make their own path around the tracks, and you can actually race them! They even fight for positions amongst themselves, and they are definitely faster and use better racing lines and don't cut corners as much if you block them off. It looks like EA fixed all problems I criticized in my F1 2002 review, because also the AI is a quantum leap forward from F1 2002. Also most of the tracks are accurately modeled according to the real life tracks in the particular season (including the difference in the first turn at Nurburgring in 19). The graphics are sharper than in F1-2002, weather effects are excellent, and the replays definitely show better details of the cars. In terms of graphics, there have been a number of improvements to the visuals of this game over its predecessor.

Needless to say these little details actually improve the driving experience. Also, the subtle sound of the tires will let you know they are reaching their limit. If anything, that is one of the areas I think is most noticeable, besides the sounds.Yeah, the sound affects have been improved massively, it's really hard to put down in words how realistic it sounds. I'd say that the physics are that much closer to the kind of physics we would expect from Papyrus. You can actually feel 'mass' and 'weight transfer' more now. I was really amazed how much different the car felt. The car just does now what you expect it to do. Probably the biggest improvement, over F1 2002 is in the physics. So what you can expect? First off, I think the new F1 Challenge is much better than F1 2002 in many ways.

That's 14 teams, 44 different vehicles, 38 drivers and 17 of the worlds most famous racing circuits configured as they were for each FORMULA ONE season from 1999-2002. I do this sort of free ad for those guys because I really enjoy watching their content and because, you guessed it, I love this sim and want to keep it alive.F1 Challenge 99-02 is long awaited sequel to F1 2002 and features four complete seasons of racing action.

It's worth to subscribe to the following youtubers: Formula Peanut and bande87 (he is the guy that put all the F1 seasons in one package). I'm not sure if there is any league available but here and there you will find open lobbies. There are some youtubers out there that keep this game still alive and because of their Discord groups and chats, they keep the multiplayer alive as well. Just to mention )Īlongside the championship mode, there is multiplayer, single race and testing mode. By the way, choosing Irvine for the 1999 season is a very good idea since the AI of Eddie is quite uncompetitive in that particular season for no reason. If you decide to go as Eddie Irvine in 1999 with the Ferrari, you will experience the great battle between Mika Häkkinen and Michael Schumacher.

You can choose any driver from one season that you prefer and start the championship (you can't start multiple championship seasons unless you create multiple user names).

The full immersion of this 4 seasons is provided by the championship mode. So for now, you will have the seasons from 1950 to 2019, isn't that awesome? Ralph Hummerich and CTDP are also popular modding teams that made this title outstanding.

He actually updates this mod every year when the new Formula 1 season starts. There is actually an italian guy, that decided to put all F1 seasons together and release it as a single mod, which is fantastic.

There is no 2003 season included, but that doesn't matter because there are lots of mods out there. EA unfortunately decided not to renew their F1 licence back then and so they decided to release a final game that features, as the the title of the game suggests, 4 full F1 seasons, from 1999 to 2002. This awesome sim was released back in mid 2003 and was published by EA Sports in collaboration with ISI. But it's also important to mention that this a die-hard sim nonethless and that it's not what I call an arcade-sim racing game like the F1 games from Codemasters. It's quite simple in a way in compare to the modern racing sims. It must be said, it's nothing for those players that believe that this game feutures high definition graphics or an immersive career mode because this sim doesn't feature any of those.
